Trend Micro Goes the Extra Mile to Protect Cloud Apps
By Stuart Cohen / November 8, 2017
Key Facts
- App name: Trend Micro
- Industry: Data and Cloud Security
- Global Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan
Cyber attacks against small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can be devastating. One study found that SMBs are targeted in 36 percent of cyber attacks, and of those, up to 60 percent go out of business within six months after an attack. Despite these alarming numbers, 77 percent of SMBs also believe that their companies are safe from attacks and security breaches.
As the number of SMBs continues to grow, so will the number of attacks and their potentially disastrous consequences. Trend Micro has been at the forefront of protecting businesses and individuals from cyber attacks since the company was founded in 1988. Today, the company has grown to serve over 500,000 businesses and now protects 155 million endpoints.

The company isn’t resting on its reputation, however. The new era of cloud-based solutions is bringing new threats. As Ryan Delany, Global Solutions Marketing Manager at Trend Micro, pointed out in a recent blog post: “Just because it’s a cloud application, doesn’t mean it’s safe. Applications like Office 365, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, SharePoint, and OneDrive still need extra protection from advanced threats that would otherwise be missed.”
Trend Micro developed its Cloud App Security solution with this misconception specifically in mind. Trend Micro Cloud App Security enhances Office 365 with advanced threat protection and data protection compliance and controls. The application also:
- Extends Office 365 built-in security with document exploit detection
- Provides sandbox malware analysis to detect zero-day malware and malicious code hidden in PDF or Office documents
- Improves visibility into compliance with data loss prevention
- Protects against threats trying to migrate to OneDrive or SharePoint Online from mobile workers or trusted partners
Moreover, Cloud App Security uses APIs to integrate directly with Office 365. This means there is no need to install software or re-route email traffic, and the customer has the same Office 365 experience they are accustomed to.
