Meet Hooria, Always on the Hunt for An Old Book with A Good Story

Hooria has been with AppDirect since July 2014.

Hooria, what’s your role here at AppDirect?

I'm a software engineer on the backend team, which means I help enhance the backend infrastructure to keep pace with our customer's evolving requirements. I contribute to the code base that touches all aspects of the AppDirect platform.

What’s the best thing about working at AppDirect?

The view from the 24th floor! We must have the best view in the city. Actually, I think that's the second best thing. My favorite thing about working at AppDirect is the people I work with. I've been at AppDirect for a year and it's been an amazing experience so far.

In my first few weeks at AppDirect, I remember being pleasantly surprised every time I collaborated with a new team member. Every single person I encountered was really smart, motivated and eager to help. Even after a year, I'm still amazed by the sense of ownership shown by the Engineering team on daily basis. Working alongside such an incredible group of people makes coming to work every day a true delight.

What’s a fun fact that people may not know about you?

I love reading but I especially love finding used books, old, falling apart, pages-crumbling, used books. They are full of their own history and can be a real treasure trove. Most of the time I only come across names or dates referring to previous owners. However, every once in while, I'll stumble across a thought-provoking comment, a witty remark, or sometimes even a moving inscription. Whenever I travel, I look for flea markets and secondhand book shops—you never know what you'll find!
