Next month will mark a monumental shift in the protection of personal data in Europe. On May 25th, 2018, the European Union (EU) will begin to enforce the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a law that regulates data privacy for all individuals in the EU.

The GDPR also marks a new phase in the digital economy, one that is set to have a major ripple effect around the world. Since the law is comprehensive, it not only governs companies in the EU, but also impacts every company that does business with customers based in the Union.

In the digital economy, millions of people around the world take part in billions of digital transactions every day regardless of company or customer location. With the GDPR, however, if a transaction touches an EU-based customer, the regulation applies. Location is now all-important, and instead of being a regional issue, data privacy is now a global concern.

At AppDirect, we realize this and believe that privacy and trust are vital to powering a thriving digital economy. That’s why we’ve proactively analyzed the GDPR requirements and have taken steps to ensure AppDirect is in compliance with the law.

Given our company’s ongoing commitment to strong data protection—including compliance with PCI, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 Type 2 standards—the changes we’ve needed to make have been minimal.

AppDirect is also committed to helping our customers comply with the GDPR and protect their end users. With this in mind, we have created new processes to address GDPR requests through our customer support process. If you are a current AppDirect customer and would like more information, please reach out to your account executive or email gdpr@appdirect.com.

Moving forward, the GDPR will be an intrinsic part of the global digital economy. At AppDirect, we are making it a top priority to ensure that the transition is seamless, and that the digital economy continues to flourish in the EU and around the world.
